It was a cloudy day and as the players from Attaching and Tegernsee started trickling in, they were pleasantly surprised to see a rare moment in German cricket - a cameraman from https://www.sueddeutsche.de/ on the field. Of course it was agreed with the news channel that their reporter Johannes would be keen to learn about the game, and he got a chance to adorn the helmet, pad and hit a few balls. He was also complimented about his good eyesight, as he did not miss a single ball.
Tegernsee won the toss and they decided to bat first. Skipper Rohit opened with a steady spell, although he did not get any wickets but he kept the run rate under control in the power play. Mohibullah on the other hand was not so lucky and Stanikzai took him to cleaners. It must have been a learning for the young Afghani pacer on how line and length is more important than pace in the early overs. Tegernsee were cruising along until Habib was brought into the attack, who duly made a breakthrough. Satya, Ram, Vineep were good in the middle overs not giving away too many runs and also picking few wickets. Credit must go to Ahmadzai, who played some aggressive strokes to take the score till 166 at the end of 40 overs.
Attaching must have thought this was gettable. They must have also know that the wet outfield and long boundaries means 166 was as good as 200 on a normal day. They needed a good start.
Although Rohit and Satya got off to a good start with 25 runs in 4 overs, but then wicket started falling regularly to a healthy Tegernsee bowling attack. There was som resistance shown by Varun and Mrunal, but once they were out the whole team was bundled out for 99 in 30.4 overs. I suppose the strong middle order batsman Shyam was missed, who had played a steady match winning knock last match against MCC.
With the game over 30 mins earlier, it gave lot of time for the team to reflect on their performance. Needless to say the confession golden liquid called as Helles in this part of the world, helped each member to retrospect in their innings. As the sun started going down and wives started calling, the team decided to call it a day and off they went wishing that the next week would bring better results. Only time will tell…
