What happened on Sunday was nothing short of a miracle. This incredible journey, which started a year ago, has finally led to our dream coming true: WE ARE GOING TO THE BUNDESLIGA! 🏆🎉
Heading into our final match against ECC II, we knew we had a shot, but our fate depended on two other matches happening simultaneously. Four teams were tied on 32 points, separated only by Net Run Rate:
BATCC I: 32 pts (NRR 0.699)
SWCC: 32 pts (NRR 0.696)
SVL II: 32 pts (NRR 0.564)
SGMC: 32 pts (NRR 0.097)
Luck favoured us from the start—we won the toss and elected to bowl. While we took the field, SGMC were batting first against SVL II, and SWCC were chasing against COCC.
Calculating the NRR scenarios mid-game took a collective brain trust! SWCC bowled out COCC for 154 (25.5 overs), SGMC scored 249 (45.2 overs), and we restricted ECC II to 167 (44.3 overs). To qualify, we had to chase down our target as fast as possible, depending on how quickly SWCC completed their chase and how heavily SGMC won.
In hindsight, ECC II's tailenders dragging their innings out to 44.3 overs was a blessing in disguise—it gave us crucial time to crunch the numbers. By the time our second innings started, SWCC were flying, sitting at over 100 runs in just 12 overs. When SWCC wrapped up their win in 18.3 overs, the exact equation was set: we needed to chase down 168 in 17.3 overs.
To keep the focus razor-sharp, I shaved off those 3 balls and told the boys we needed to finish it in 17.0 overs.
Abdul and Rohit set the perfect platform with aggressive hitting, and MD Talha played an exceptional, stroke-filled innings that kept us right in the hunt. Valuable, handsome contributions from Arjun N, Sasi A, and Sam A kept us on pace with the required rate.
It all came down to the absolute wire: 4 runs needed off 3 balls to stay ahead of SWCC's NRR.
17.1: Rajesh took a crucial single.
17.2: Talha needed 3 off 2, but unfortunately missed.
17.3: 3 runs needed off 1 ball.
But as they say, we were destined to win. On the final ball, Talha struck a magnificent boundary over point to turn the impossible into reality! 🚀
That boundary pushed our NRR to 1.09, edging past SWCC's 1.03 by just 0.06 to seal a well-deserved Bundesliga promotion!
Huge credit goes to the entire squad. Every single match brought a new match-winner—Rohit, Abdul, Essa, Sam, Talha, Amit, Harris, Nitish, Kabir, Satya, Sasi, Ashish, Rajesh, Zee, Arjun and the rest of the team. This perfect blend of experience and youth has achieved something we will cherish for eternity.
I’ll admit, it’s going to take time to sink in. I’ve checked the points table and re-lived those final overs a thousand times since yesterday, and I'm sure you all have too!
